If your mirror closet door keeps jumping the track or gets stuck mid-slide, adjustments won't fix it long-term. Here's what's actually failing and what the right replacement looks like.

There’s a predictable progression with failing sliding mirror doors. Phase one: the door is slightly hard to move. Phase two: it jumps if you push it normally. Phase three: it comes off the track entirely and you have a 50-lb mirror panel leaning against your dresser. If you’re in phase one or two, you have time to fix this correctly before it gets expensive.
The rollers are likely worn flat or the track has accumulated debris in the channel. Clean the track first — this occasionally solves it. If cleaning doesn’t help, the rollers need replacement. If new rollers still drag, the track channel itself is distorted and the whole track assembly needs to go.
This means the anti-jump device (the small retainer that keeps the roller in the channel) is missing or broken. Anti-jump devices are small, cheap, and often left out in builder-grade installations. A roller without one will exit the track any time the door is moved at normal speed.

The bottom guide is gone or broken. This is the most common symptom in older installations because the original bottom guide was just a plastic channel that wasn’t fastened. Once it migrates out from under the door, there’s nothing keeping the bottom of the panel in plane, so it swings freely. You can feel the lateral wobble when you grab the door.

If your current doors are original to the house (more than 10 years old), the most cost-effective solution is a complete system replacement rather than piece-by-piece repair. Here’s why:

Standard bypass doors have two panels that slide in front of each other on two tracks. You can access half the closet at a time. Triple-track systems run three panels on three tracks — every inch of the opening is accessible without moving panels around. If your opening is 6 feet or wider and storage access matters to you, triple-track is worth the additional cost.
