A sagging or sticking closet door is usually a hardware problem. Here's how to diagnose sliding and bifold doors, what you can fix yourself and when to call a pro.
A closet door that sags at one corner or sticks halfway is usually telling you something specific: a roller has worn down, a guide has broken or a pivot has slipped. The fix depends on what kind of door you have, so start there.
Vacuum the top and bottom tracks and wipe them with a dry cloth. Skip oily sprays; they attract dust and turn into grit. A silicone spray used sparingly is fine on most tracks.
Most sliding doors have an adjustment screw near each roller. If the door is low on one side, raise that side a little at a time until the gap along the floor or jamb is even. Make small turns and test the door after each one.
If the rollers are flat-spotted, cracked or wobbly, adjustment won’t help. Replacing them restores smooth sliding. A missing or broken bottom guide is the most common reason doors swing out and drop off the track. See our guide to adjusting closet door rollers for more detail.
Bifolds hang on a top pivot and sit on a bottom pivot. If either loosens, the door sags and rubs. Tighten the bracket screws and confirm the guide wheel is seated in the top track.
If the gap at the latch side is uneven, the top pivot bracket can usually slide along the track to square the door. Adjust it, then re-tighten and test.

Our technicians carry common rollers and guides and can usually repair sliding and bifold doors on the first visit. Roller replacement typically runs $50–$75 per roller. If the system is beyond repair, we’ll show you replacement options during the same free visit, and we haul away the old doors if you replace.
Usually a worn roller or a loose adjustment screw on that side. Raising or replacing the roller fixes it.
Yes. It’s normally a loose pivot bracket or worn guide. Re-setting the bracket and tightening the hardware solves most cases.
