A dented or loose floor track makes mirror closet doors drag and derail. Here's how to tell if yours can be repaired or needs replacing.
Most mirror and heavy sliding closet doors roll on a floor track, which puts it right where vacuums, shoes and storage bins hit it every day. When the floor track gets damaged, the doors start to drag, bump and come off.
A loose top guide or a door set at the wrong height can push the door sideways, stressing the floor track. Fixing only the bottom track won’t last if the top is the real issue.
Re-securing a loose track, replacing missing screws and cleaning out grit are straightforward fixes. A short, minor dent can sometimes be corrected. Pair that with new rollers if the old ones are worn. See closet door roller replacement.
Replacing just the track is covered in how to replace a damaged closet door track. If the doors are also aging, a full new system with matched track and rollers is often the better value.
We inspect the whole system, top and bottom, and give you an honest recommendation: repair, new track or new doors. As a licensed contractor (CSLB #1136094), we handle all three. See our closet door repair service.
Yes, if a matching track is available and the doors are in good shape.
Usually a dent in the floor track or a flat spot on a roller.
